friday favs [diaper bag dilemma]

Friday, January 31, 2014

the baby's room is set up. all the clothes are washed and put away. the strollers and car seats are assembled. we know how to put together the pack-n-play. we went through a childbirth class. we're cpr [infant and adult] certified. we've toured the hospital. i have my birth plan. the hospital bag gets packed this weekend.

but the only thing i'm completely stuck on is the diaper bag. i'm incredibly picky about the bags i carry and i just really, really don't want some silly printed diaper bag [no matter how "convenient" it may be] and normal ones are hard to find. i like the coach baby bag tote and the skip hop chelsea diaper bag, but that's about it.

so i need your help, mamas out there. should i get a designated diaper bag or convert a [much cuter] non-diaper bag [like this sophie hulme tote or coach bleeker cooper satchel] into a diaper bag using inserts?

and happy friday!

thursday tales [the remote control saga]

Thursday, January 30, 2014
jason and i have been living in the 80s for the past 2 weeks. not 80 degree temps, but the 1980s. when you had to get up off your couch and turn the channels on the tv manually.

as you can imagine, being 8 months pregnant and "getting off the couch" are like oil and water, shit just don't mix. so besides watching lots of HGTV and law & order: SVU marathons [something i do anyways], i've been annoyingly limited to whatever channel i set before i sit down. it's terrible.

about a week ago, i was determined to do something about it. we decided that the culprit was the remote control, so one friday after work i made my way over to the local comcast service center to exchange ours for a new one.

now if you've ever been in a comcast service center, you know that it's like the DMV - full of overly friendly people, those tickets you have to take, and wait time of roughly 72 hours [if you're lucky].

that particular friday, i waddled in, took my ticket, and eyed the comfy couches in the corner to settle into for my long wait. they even looked comfortable enough to give birth on, if it came down to it.

luckily, the comcast gods were on my side that day and before i could plop my rump on the couch, my number was called.

a little wary of trickery, i waddled my way over to the service rep, produced my remote, and said "it's broken, i need a new one", in one of those don't-mess-with-me tones.

without batting an eyelash [i'm serious, her face never moved], the rep took my remote, reached into a cabinet behind her, grabbed a shiny new one, handed it to me, and said "that's it".

"that's it?!", i exclaimed, completely thrown off. "yes, have a good weekend!" chirped the now animated rep.

shocked beyond belief, i spit out a a surprised "you have a great weekend", and got out of there before she realized how quickly this transaction happened and made me fill out boxes of paperwork.

this is where you think the story ends, don't you? well it doesn't. because that stupid new remote didn't work either.

so we lived in the 80s for 1 more week before i decided to suck it up and contact comcast again. instead of calling them [because really, i'm going to be pushing a baby out of a very narrow space soon and i shouldn't have to endure more pain than that], i got in the chat queue and waited until a nice analyst named jose came on to help me out.

jose asked me a series of rather interesting questions to ascertain the situation. here's a snippet of my favorite:

"what are the steps did you use when you tried to program the remote control?"

what the what? jose, dear, i can barely put shoes on anymore, what do you mean what did i do? i sang it the sweet song of my people, danced the "please work" dance, put batteries in it, pointed it at my cable box and willed it to work with my mind [while pushing the buttons].

and when it didn't work, i let out a loud, primal yell and chucked it across the room.

so after you tell me how i'm supposed to "program it", i'm going to need a new remote.

[pjk patterson j. kincaid vest (old), patterson j. kincaid blouse (old), h&m necklace (old), j.crew maternity pixie pants in navy (not that you can tell), stuart weitzman 5050 boots (in cola suede)]

this was a billowy blouse that was quite big on me in my skinny days.

not no more.

[but hey, if it fits...]

tuesday threads [double up]

Tuesday, January 28, 2014
[madewell workshirt, chambray shirt (via nordstrom rack), old navy maternity leggings, old navy maternity tank top,  target scarf (old), uggs in classic tall]

i've mentioned before that shirts no longer button [see exhibits 1-4 above] but have i explained to you guys how i brave the cold these days?

well, you see that big long scarf? whenever i have to walk my dog or generally poke my head outside, that bad boy goes right over my belly and my long northface coat [still hands down the best coat i've ever purchased] gets buttoned once right under my [now ample] bosom.

it's just about the sexiest thing you've ever seen.

thursday threads [grunge]

Thursday, January 23, 2014

[j.crew factory plaid shirt (old), zara tee (old), hatch collection premium leggings, stuart weitzman 5050 boots (in cola suede), clare vivier foldover clutch (in leopard)]

i wore this little grunge number out to dinner on a double date. when i bought this zara tee, it was way, way too big [it's a medium] and now it fits great [i guess i just had to gain lots of pounds and a baby belly, no sweat].

and just in case you forgot how awesome beau was, here's him high-fiving me.

you're welcome.

wear it wednesday [hatch premium leggings]

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

[gap maternity waffle sweater (on sale!), hatch collection premium leggings, loft scarf (old)]

[this is obviously my most flattering angle]

[stuart weitzman 5050 boots (in cola suede)]

i've done it again. i've been so obsessed with my hatch collection long-sleeved tee that i went ahead and bought the premium leggings. and, well, they're amazing.

and i've been wearing them for 4 days straight. [and i'm not ashamed to admit that].

tuesday threads [golden]

Tuesday, January 21, 2014
[patterson j. kincaid blouse (old via nordstrom rack), loft maternity pants, patterson j. kincaid vest (old), stuart weitzman 5050 boots (in cola suede)]

it's tuesday, i'm 8 months pregnant, and we're supposed to get a blizzard today.

but we just picked up the rest of our baby necessities yesterday [for $70! i love babies r us] and this camera makes my skin glow and lets me take indoor shots without them looking completely horrible.

so i'm golden.

friday favs [cravings]

friday favs [cravings]
[yes, that's a whole lotta junk food]

you know what cracks me up? when i read pregnancy blogs and the hot mama-to-be bloggers are asked what they're craving, they usually write "fruit!" or "yummy green veggies!"

i must have missed the healthy food cravings train because you know what i'm craving? loaded cheese fries. bacon. a salt lick. a dozen glazed donuts [quick tangent; i recently tried a cronut and that's all i think about now]. key lime pie. blueberry muffins [and not those fat-free bullshit ones, the full-fat, topped with sugar crystals you can see from 3 miles away]. just to name a few.

granted, this isn't at all what i eat on a daily basis, but hell, it's certainly what i want!

happy friday, you guys [and may your weekend be full of alllll the bad stuff you don't eat during the week]!

thursday threads [missguided blazer]

Thursday, January 16, 2014
[missguided blazer, h&m dress (old), stuart weitzman 50/50 boots (black leather)]

it took 15 business days to get to me, but the lovely dark green missguided blazer [as seen on julie of sincerely jules] finally made it to my door and onto my currently rotund frame.

i was pretty annoyed at first that it took so long to get here, but i've already worn in 3 times and it is as chic as i thought it would be, so i can't stay mad.

welcome to my blazer collection, you dark green beauty, you.

p.s. if you're ordering, just spring for the expedited shipping and save yourself this misery.

p.p.s. sorry about the plethora of dog butt in these pics, he wouldn't move. [you see it now, don't you?]

oh and one more thing [showered with love]

Wednesday, January 15, 2014
[don't act like you're not impressed...]

[ these gorg DIY florals!]

[my loves]

[i told them to "look crafty"]

[all the cool babies have hastags #naturally]

[you know the baby can't read]

[mama got baby leopard print uggs that you best believe he/she will be rockin' proudly]

although it was pouring most of saturday, my amazing family and friends made it out to shower me and baby with so much love on saturday!

with perfect florals by my gorgeous bestie, a DIY onesie bar [i now have a plethora of anchorman-themed onesies. think "i'm ron burgundy?" and "you have a breathtaking hiney" (aptly written on the backside)], and all of it coordinated by my fantastical sister - i really couldn't have had a better day.

from me, jason, baby, and beau [because beau's always involved], i just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you!

wear it wednesday [baby shower dress]

[ralph lauren dress (for $29 on clearance via marshalls!), baublebar tassel necklace]

[stuart weitzman 5050 boots (cola suede)]

i wore this little ralph lauren wrap dress number to my baby shower this past saturday. i had all but given up on finding a new [reasonably priced] dress to wear when my bestie texts me a picture from a marshall's dressing room, wearing this dress, with her purse stuffed under to mimic the belly and the caption "this will fit you perfectly". and it did. that's what friends are for! #fabfound!

p.s. my boobs are on display for probably the first time ever in this bad boy. that's because this is the first time i have boobs to display. i plan to display them as much as i can as long as i have them. you've been warned.

p.p.s. yes, i'm wearing mama spanx. and they're glorious.

tuesday threads [rails plaid]

Tuesday, January 14, 2014
[rails plaid, missguided blazer, loft maternity pants, stuart weitzman 50/50 boots (cola suede)]

the good news, my new rails button down softest ever plaid shirt buttons [barely, but it does!].

the bad news, my fingers grew a few sizes and i can no longer wear my wedding & engagement rings [does that mean i'm single the rest of my pregnancy? kidding!!].

this belly is outta control.
