friday favs [pregnancy must-haves: part 2]

Friday, February 28, 2014
friday favs [pregnancy must-haves: part 2]

it's hard being pregnant in the winter. i know a lot of people complain about summer pregnancies, but i see being able to wear a maxi dress and flip flops much easier than having to figure out the pants and boot situation because it snows every other day.

much like the part 1 of my pregnancy must-haves, here's what you'll need during the second half of your winter pregnancy:

1. stuart weitzman 5050 boots. these are non-negotiable as all other shoes/boots will make your feet swell. and these have the stretchy back and just enough compression to keep the swelling down. just make sure you have a buddy to help you get them on and off. [oh hey, and if you act today, you can get them for 25% off during the shopbop sale!]

2. gap pure body maternity tee. these will become the staple in your wardrobe. not only are they long enough to cover your growing belly, but they're so soft and don't irritate your already itchy skin. get them in every color. also think about sizing up, i typically get extra small tops in gap clothes but have been opting for small in these. they mold to your body so they won't be too loose.

3. hatch collection long-sleeve tee. loose, comfy, fits, stripey. 'nuff said. i have the black & white version and just picked up the tan & red off of shopbop. you won't regret it.

4. long, heavy winter scarf. i swear by my target merona aztec printed scarf [and matching hat with pom-pom!]. although it's last season and most definitely sold out, you can find similar versions anywhere. make sure it's long and covers the belly because guess what? your coat won't button and something's gotta keep that bump warm.

5. spanx marvelous mama tights. these are so comfortable and perfect to wear with stretchy dresses and boots [see #1]. there's an area for your expanding bump. when ordering definitely go by your height/weight as to which group you're in. i would automatically always order from the group a column, but in this case, i'm so glad i went with group b which were the next size up. remember, it's all about comfort and spanx are there to suck in your thighs a little anyways. you'll love them.

there are probably a million other things you could get to stay comfy and warm during the second half of your winter pregnancy, but investing in these 5 basics will absolutely get you through.

i hope you guys have a great weekend! thank you everyone who emailed or commented on tuesday's drama post - you really made my day! as you read this, i'm probably still pregnant, unable to get shoes or pants on without help, and sitting on my couch propping up my swollen ankles because i didn't take my own advice [#1] and wore uggs all day.

happy friday!

tuesday tales [being dramatic]

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

i've been pretty even-keel throughout this pregnancy, but this last month, woof, it's like everything is just hitting me, both emotionally and physically.

i shouldn't be complaining, my body is making a baby, and i'm so excited, but it's sometimes hard to hold it together when you haven't slept in more than 2 hour stretches because the bowling ball in under your skin is pressing on your bladder [and belly button... shudder] so much that you're seriously considering wearing adult diapers to bed. also, everything is swollen. [so please, excuse me as i vent, be dramatic, and over-blow situations that really shouldn't be bothering me].

yesterday was one of my weekly doctor's appointments. after not sleeping well again, i had the complete pleasure of getting myself dressed without help. you see, these days, putting on shoes without help sucks. it also doesn't help that the only shoes that don't make my feet swell are my stuart weitzman 5050s. it took me 20 full minutes where there was cursing, crying, and assuring my very confused dog that i wasn't mad at him. [i got the shoes on, but not before working myself up into a tizzy].

after having to go back into my house twice because i forgot stuff, i was finally on my way. late, obviously, it didn't help that the parking lot for my ob's practice is horribly laid out, full of handicapped spaces, and always packed. i typically have to park in the shopping center next door and walk waddle my way over, and, although i need the exercise, it sucks with all the snow/ice we're having.

with a quick "i have to pee right now, i'm not signing in", i get very sympathetic looks from the nurses and a "are you still pregnant?" as i barely make it to the bathroom. next comes the dreaded scale that tells me i've packed on another pound. the saving grace is hearing my baby's heartbeat and hearing that everything is great.

at this point i've calmed down enough to think that i'll make it through the rest of the day, that is until, waddling out to the far away parking lot to notice that the new car next to me has parked so close to my door that even if i hadn't been pregnant, even if i had been a skinny stick-figure model, i wouldn't be able to squeeze myself in.

a loud "you've got to be [insert expletive here] kidding me" escapes my lips, and before i can stop myself, i throw my big louis [vuitton, i name them] in the passenger side, walk around to my door, gently open it enough to hit the a-hole who thinks anyone can fit in the space they left, make sure it's left a little mark, and drive off.

2.5 weeks.

friday favs [aritzia]

Friday, February 21, 2014
friday favs [aritzia]

how have i not heard of aritzia before? an innovative women's fashion boutique that started in canada and has since expanded into the united states and in 2012 launched an online shop.

i ran across it when i saw a favorite blogger of mine wearing one of their shirts - and then spent the next hour browsing the website adding things to my cart left & right. when i had a ton of items picked and my total reached north of $1,000 [i didn't pull the trigger, i have a baby coming, you know], i knew i needed to share. they're incredibly well priced, have a ton of pieces i would consider neutrals, and i'm obsessed.

i'll be revisiting that online shopping cart of mine for sure, but in the meantime enjoy some of my favorite picks above!

p.s. aritzia crew, if you're reading this, you are the cat's meow and i want all of your clothes.

p.p.s. it's my dad's birthday! happy birthday, papa, i love you!

thursday tales [inappropriate labor music mix]

Thursday, February 20, 2014
[image via]

nope, no baby yet, but since i've been a terrible fashion blogger - what with the complete lack of pictures this week - i thought i'd share a little funny story.

this past weekend my husband jason and i [ok mostly just i] were packing up the baby's bag and my hospital bag. i had [obviously] decided to repack the new pajama options i picked up at target the week before [like i'll actually care what i'm wearing, right?] and talking about the delivery itself.

you may not know this about me, but i'm not one for pain [but who is, right?] and i was telling jason that i'll be "needing his support" and other cliche pregnant lady comments when he suggested that he should make a labor mix of music to soothe me in what's sure to be a stressful experience.

and i busted out laughing. at my poor husband. who was just trying to be helpful.

you want to know why? it's because the first song that popped into my head was "push it" by salt'n'pepa. i couldn't stop laughing [and of course had to run pee because the baby is directly on my bladder these days].

we decided that there had to be other amazingly inappropriate songs to play during labor that i just had to share with you guys.

so without further adieu, i give you, the music-not-to-play-when-you're-in-labor-mix [in order of labor stage progression and complete with youtube links]:

"let's get it started" - the black eyed peas
"under pressure" - queen
"shout" - tears for fears
"hurt so good" - john mellencamp
"you shook me all night long" - ac/dc
"do you really want to hurt me" - culture club
"gonna make you sweat" - c+c music factory
"i wanna be sedated" - the ramones
"relax" - frankie goes to hollywood
"push it" - salt'n'pepa
"ring of fire" - johnny cash
"it's the final countdown" - europe
"drop it like it's hot" - snoop dog & pharrell williams
"i'm coming out" - diana ross

[i'm sorry and you're welcome].

have i missed any good ones?

thursday tales [the remote control saga part 2]

Thursday, February 13, 2014
we left off our tale with my throwing the remote across the room [well not really, but i thought about it].

after following jose's [convoluted] instructions, long story short, it wasn't the remote, it was the box's infrared sensor. just as we thought.

we waited another week, getting up each time we wanted to change the channel [first world problems], until a saturday when a nice comcast tech showed up.

i knew it was going to be ok when 1) beau didn't want to eat him and 2) he asked "so how long have you been watching the same channel?" as he changed out our malfunctioning box.

and i've been in channel surfing bliss since then.

the end.

wear it wednesday [instagram #ootds]

Wednesday, February 12, 2014

i actually took photos. i did. i swear.

and then something happened where my camera and computer aren't talking. as in the files are no longer .jpgs and my viewer won't open them.

anyone know how to fix that? i'm too pregnant to figure it out.

so instead, here's a what i wore wednesday photo-dump from my instagram [in case you're not following, which is a big mistake, there's a lotta beau & bump on there]. you'll see i've basically resorted to leggings, open-front sweaters, and scarves. [viva being pregnant in the winter!]

pleated poppy
[linking up!]

p.s. we're getting another snow storm tomorrow. mother nature officially hates the northeast.

monday musings [why this winter sucks]

Monday, February 10, 2014
I hate the cold. Below 55 and it sucks

you guys, this winter is getting ridiculous. let's discuss why:

  • i can't go anywhere [except work, and only sometimes].
  • everyone's always afraid of me slipping [which i guess is a valid point].
  • on top of my already having issues finding clothes that fit me in my closet, those that do are wholly inappropriate for winter [because i mean, technically, my old navy tights aren't warm enough].
  • my footwear selection has dwindled down to a) stuart weitzman 5050 over-the-knee boots or b) uggs.
  • we've already had one day when we lost power and another storm coming on thursday.
  • i keep having to reschedule my now weekly doctor appointments and each time the scheduling service tells me the only dates available are at the end of march [you know, when i'll actually have a baby already].
  • even though our township and those around me do a great job of clearing the roads, people seem to regress in their ability to drive [please use your turn signals, i can't read your mind!].
  • beau will only poo in grass [because he's a diva and we have to shovel several options for him. and by "we" i mean my husband].

ok, rant over. bring on the spring!

friday favs [valentine's day heartthrob]

Friday, February 7, 2014

valentine's day is just 7 short days away and you probably have a really hot date - whether it's with your significant other, your girlfriends, or your cat/dog [hey, don't knock spending time with animals that love you unconditionally on a day meant for looooove].

if you don't know what to wear, i've put together some suggestions [above, duh] that are based on certain valentine's day themes: hearts, pink, and valentino [see what i did there?]!

in case you were wondering, i've got a hot date too [with my husband, my dog, and my 9-month baby belly], but i won't be wearing one of those hot numbers above. i'll probably be wearing a bed sheet held up by rope. or a mu-mu. i haven't decided yet.

happy friday!

tuesday threads [spend/save]

Tuesday, February 4, 2014

dylan lex makes the most gorgeous bib necklaces that i've ever seen. unfortunately, they range from $580 for the dean, up to $980 for the falkor and are a little out of my typical necklace price range.

not to worry, forever 21 to the rescue!

their high society bib necklace is pretty comparable to the $640 bobbie, and while nowhere near the quality [i'm sure], the $20.80 price tag is pretty darn affordable.

monday musings [valentine's day gift ideas for him and her]

Monday, February 3, 2014

so valentine's day is sneaking up fast and  you don't know what to get your significant other.

it's ok, because i'm here to help! it's a simple formula, really.

girls like shiny things, like jewelry. so get her this julie vos gold coin pendant necklace. [it's what i want!]

boys like gadgets. so get him this mophie juice pack air. [so he can't say his phone ran out of battery and he can't talk to you!]

tada! problems solved.
